Veterans Day, observed on November 11, honors all U.S. military veterans and commemorates their sacrifices and service.
-
- Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I on November 11, 1918. The day was first commemorated in 1919 and became a national holiday in 1938. In 1954, after World War II and the Korean War, the name was changed to Veterans Day to honor all veterans.
-
- The holiday is dedicated to thanking and honoring all military veterans who served in the U.S . Armed Forces, including the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Space Force. Unlike Memorial Day, which honors those who died in service, Veterans Day recognizes the contributions of all veterans, both living and deceased
‘Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have served our country with courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication. We are especially thankful for Sergeant First Class Todd Kirk (Ret.), whose leadership, guidance, and steady strength continue to inspire the Huntsville community. His example reminds us what true service and commitment look like, both in, and out of uniform.’ Please visit We Are Huntsville for more Veterans Day tributes and images.
